Integrative Oncology Massage

Oncology massage is essentially a traditional Swedish massage heavily modified for anyone dealing with cancer, whether they are newly diagnosed, in active treatment, or in recovery.  Every part of the session is strictly guided by medical safety, meaning the session is custom-tailored to the patient's specific type of cancer, stage, treatments, medications, and current side effects.  By adapting techniques to the patient's unique needs and health status, the goal is to enhance well-being, promote relaxation, and alleviate the physical and emotional challenges associated with cancer treatment.

How It Helps
Oncology massage is clinically shown to improve quality of life by addressing a variety of symptoms and side effects, including:

  • Pain and Discomfort: Alleviating physical pain and muscle tension.
  • Fatigue and Weakness: Boosting energy levels and overall vitality.
  • Neuropathy: Managing chemotherapy-induced nerve pain and discomfort.
  • Lymphedema & Mobility: Supporting lymphatic system health and improving range of motion.
  • Emotional Well-being: Reducing stress, anxiety, and the psycho-social aspects of a cancer diagnosis.

My Qualifications
You are in expert hands. I hold a certificate of completion in oncology massage therapy from Monarch LLC, a program recognized by the
Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM). I am also a preferred provider with S4OM, ensuring specialized and safe care based on the latest research and best practices.

Scar Tissue Mobilization ~ (STM)

Scar Tissue Mobilization (STM)  is a specific type of soft-tissue therapy designed to treat scar and adhered, dense, tissue. Often done with massage, STM aims to guide the remodeling process to create a more functional scar. Scar tissue techniques mobilize the collagen fibers within the scar using precise, gentle techniques to free the surrounding adhered fascia.  Understanding the delicate pressue balance that helps the scar tissue to become softer while taking care to applying the right amount of pressure. "Breaking up" scar tissue is NOT the term or the approach I use This process effectively rehabilitates the tissue, making it softer, more pliable, and minimizing hard, fibrotic buildup.

CranioSacral Therapy ~ (CST)

Gentle Healing with CranioSacral Therapy

A non-invasive, light-touch therapy, Upledger-method CST gently works with the brain, spinal cord, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to release restrictions in the craniosacral system. This supports the parasympathetic nervous system (rest-and-digest) and reduces muscle/fascial tension, enabling the body's innate self-correction. It's highly effective for chronic pain, fibromyalgia, headaches, post-concussion syndrome, TMJ dysfunction, and neurodegenerative conditions, offering a distinct, gentle approach from traditional massage.

Providing a deep, restorative experience for children and adults, the client may remained clothed unless combined with other bodywork modalities.

Visceral Manipulation

Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a specialized form of manual therapy that gently focuses on the internal organs (viscera), their surrounding environment, and their influence on the body's structural and physiological functions.

The Core Philosophy: "Only the Tissues Know"

Developed by French Osteopath and Physical Therapist Jean-Pierre Barral, VM is rooted in the philosophy that our bodies' tissues possess an innate intelligence, recording past injuries, diseases, and stressors. The practitioner's role is to "listen" to the tissues with trained, gentle hands to identify and release areas of restriction or reduced motion, allowing the body to self-correct and restore optimal function.

How it Works

A skilled practitioner uses soft, specifically placed manual forces to encourage the normal mobility, tone, and inherent motion of the organs and their connective tissues (fascia). This gentle approach aims to:

  • Restore proper movement and communication within and between organs and other bodily structures.
  • Improve organ function, circulation, and nerve communication.
  • Alleviate associated musculoskeletal pain and postural distortions that may stem from internal organ restrictions.

Conditions That Benefit from VM

Visceral Manipulation can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Acute Disorders: Neck injuries, whiplash, sports injuries, and concussions.
  • Digestive Disorders: Bloating, constipation, nausea, acid reflux (GERD).
  • Women's & Men's Health: Chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, bladder incontinence, and prostate dysfunction.
  • Orthopedic & Musculoskeletal Issues: Chronic back and neck pain, sciatica, headaches, migraines, and peripheral joint pain.
  • Post-Surgical Dysfunction: Addressing pain and restricted movement caused by scar tissue.

VM may be used as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other manual therapies like CranioSacral Therapy or Lymphatic Massage for a comprehensive, holistic approach.

Swedish Massage

Relax, Restore, Rejuvenate

Experience full-body relaxation with the popular Swedish Massage, targeting superficial muscles with light-to-firm, flowing strokes to melt tension, boost circulation, and restore energy.  I blend traditional techniques with aromatherapy, warm basalt stones, infrared and heat, for a deeply restorative session, perfect for stress relief or first-time massage clients seeking overall well-being.  Benefits include reduced pain, improved sleep, and enhanced flexibility.

The four most common strokes used in Swedish massage are:

  • Effleurage: soothing, gliding strokes
  • Petrissage: squeezing, rolling, or kneading
  • Friction: deep, circular movements to increase blood flow and loosen scar tissue
  • Tapotement: tapping with cupped hands, fingers, or the edge of the hand
  • Vibration: shaking tissues

The development of Swedish massage is credited to Dutch practitioner, Johan Georg Mezger, who adopted the French names to denote the basic strokes. But, a "Swedish" massage does not derive its name from the country of Sweden.

Pregnancy Massage

I trained in this modality in the early 1990's under Kate Jordan founder of Bodywork for the Childbearing Year and Beyond. In 1998, I designed and supervised the Labor Massage Volunteer Program in the Complementary Medicine Program which I helped to design and implement, at the former Boston Regional Medical Center.

This Medical Massage Specialization bridges the gap between relaxation and clinical care.  Each session addresses pre-existing or pregnancy-related conditions with tailored care. A comprehensive, ongoing assessment ensures the safety, comfort, and appropriate technique application for every trimester, the postpartum period, and beyond.

Specialized Focus Areas:

  • Pregnancy: Alleviating structural changes, low back pain, nerve/ligament strain, and edema.
  • Post-partum: Restoring visceral and ligament alignment.
  • Support: Nausea reduction, emotional support, and improved sleep.

The session incorporates safe positioning, alignment coaching, and individualized body-mechanics education. For additional support, I offer integrated instruction in Kundalini Yoga, Qigong, and Movement Intelligence™ (Bones for Life™)."

Platinum Energy Detox System

The Platinum Energy Detox System (PES): Cleanse from the inside out and feel more alive.

Your body is designed to maintain perfect harmony and vitality. However, modern life exposes us to a high toxic burden that can trap contaminants within your cells, leading to fatigue and sluggishness. The Platinum Energy System (PES) is designed to help you release these foreign toxins, clearing the way for your body’s natural rejuvenation processes. By supporting your elimination systems, PES helps restore your energy, mental clarity, and physical wellness.

Core Technology

  • A microcomputer-controlled array: The microcomputer-controlled array creates a down-one gradient to allow the body's intelligence to release its' toxic burden. One coil is positively-charged and the other is negatively-charged and this creates an polarized electro-magnetic field that enables the body to release its' content into the basin.
  • Electrolysis & Osmosis: The electroysis process creates the water in the basin to have a higher osmotic pressure than the body.  The system stimulates over 2,000 sweat glands in the feet to release environmental toxins and heavy metals.
  • Precision Control: Unlike consumer-grade units, it uses automated technology to regulate current and salt levels for a safe, consistent experience.

Key Benefits

  • Detoxification: Assists in clearing "body burden" from environmental pollutants.
  • Recovery: Reduces lactic acid and supports lymphatic drainage to ease joint stiffness and fatigue.
  • Vitality: Users frequently report improved mental clarity, higher energy levels, and better sleep.

Pricing:

$75 as a stand alone treatment.

$65 added to a bodywork session.

Pricing:

Massage Cupping

Massage Cupping is a technique using suction cups to lift skin and tissue, creating negative pressure to boost circulation, release stagnant energy, and draw out toxins. In Western terms, it decompresses fascia, breaks down adhesions, improves lymphatic drainage, and reduces muscle tension by pulling tissues upward, effectively addressing restrictions and promoting fluid movement for deeper healing than traditional pressure massage. They have also shown to be effective in loosening and softening scar tissue and fibrotic tissue.

While cupping is deeply ingrained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with ancient roots, historical evidence suggests its use predates TCM in ancient Egypt and Greece with Ayurvedic texts like Sushruta Samhita also describing similar procedures (Raktamokshan), implying a shared, ancient global practice rather than a singular origin.

Bamboo Moxibustion

Bamboo  Moxibustion is a traditional Japanese Medicine technique where a piece of bamboo is filled with burning mugwort wool which is then rolled, tapped, and pressed on the electrical energy pathways in the body called “meridians”. The rhythmic application of heat and pressure on acupoints triggers shifts in the body condition and mood.

Moxibustion expels cold, promotes circulation in meridians. It is warming, nourishing, nurturing to the blood, dispels cold from the body, reducing phlegm, and dispelling dampness. It promotes energy (qi) and relieves pain and depletion and eliminates stagnation.

Moxibustion has powerful application for the lymphatic system by encouraging the movement of fluids. It can help drain excess fluid from tissues, which can reduce general swelling (edema) and may be beneficial for conditions like postoperative lymphedema. Moving stagnant lymph helps the body filter and remove waste materials and toxin build-up from body cells.

Important Considerations

While beneficial, moxibustion is not suitable for everyone. It should be avoided in cases of:

  • Acute inflammation
  • High fever or heat stroke
  • Skin conditions like eczema or dermatitis in the treatment area
  • Pregnancy (on the abdomen or lower back)

Abdominal Pack

Foot Treatment

Joint Nourishment

$30 Added to a bodywork session

Castor Oil is considered one of the most healing oils on the planet with a wide and impressive therapeutic application. The oil is derived from the castor bean plant, Ricinus Communis, which is native to India.

It is a key medicinal used in Ayurvedic medicine for millennia and was studied and promoted in the US during the mid-20th century by holistic health pioneer, Dr. Edgar Cayce

The Castor Oil Abdominal Pack, Joint Nourishment, and the Lemon/Castor Oil Foot Treatment described below are three rejuvenating experiences offered in conjunction with a bodywork session.

Castor Oil Abdominal Packs:

Castor oil is applied topically to the abdomen and is absorbed through the skin into the underlying visceral and tissues spaces, along with the application of heat which helps it to penetrate.

Its therapeutic action on the tissues include flushing, cleansing, emollient / softening of gall stones, skin, and dry, arthritic tissue, liver-detoxifier, mild to moderate laxative effect and so on. It also increases lymphocyte production and the circulation of the lymphatic system.

Joint Nourishment:

Deeply penetrating and anti-inflammatory, this treatment helps loosen stiffness, nourish dry tissues, and ease arthritic discomfort, allowing for freer, more comfortable movement. Excellent for any joints and especially for anyone facing or recovering from joint replacement surgery.

Lemon/Castor Oil/Salt Foot Treatment:

The combination of castor oil, salt, and lemon, is a powerful triple effect that opens the pores and the nerve endings in the feet, and the excretory channels of the kidneys and liver, drawing out impurities.

The salt has a gentle skin exfoliating effect as well as balancing tissues pH. The lemon is an excellent stimulant to the lymphatics moving stagnant lymphatic fluid in the feet back into venous circulation. The treatment also helps to cool the body and feels wonderful!
