Sunlight
Far Infrared Portable Sauna

The Sunlighten™ Solo is a portable sauna system that fits on top of a massage table uses heaters to emit invisible far infrared light that heats your body from the inside out and produces well-established health benefits.

Far infrared light penetrates both the epidermis and the dermis (the two outermost layers of the skin) and reaches into the fat-rich subcutaneous tissue (also known as subcutis or hypodermis) where your sweat glands are located.

Technically, the way it works is that the infrared light stimulates light receptors inside the mitochondria. Mitochondria are like a power plant inside each cell; normally, the energy your cells use comes from glucose or ketones, but light can be used as well.

Approximately 50% of the sunlight that reaches Earth is infrared light but unlike the sunlight, infrared light from a sauna has no UV rays and carries no risk of sunburn or damage to skin cells that can result in skin-cancer.

Here are some additional benefits associated with infrared sauna:

  • Provides Pain Relief
  • Effects similar to Cardiovascular Workout
  • Helps Build Muscle and Increases Flexibility
  • Causes a Spike in Growth Hormones (hGh)
  • Relieves Stress and Tension-heat exposure elevates serotonin levels.Detoxification Based on a comprehensive review of heavy metal detoxification by renowned detoxification expert Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, far infrared saunas are an excellent way to rid the body of heavy metal contamination because “infrared mobilizes specific toxins, like mercury, in deeper tissues.” In other words, infrared saunas may be more effective at eliminating toxins than traditional steam saunas.
  • Improves Recovery and Circulation-infrared sauna causes blood vessels to dilate, thus increasing blood flow and improving circulation. As a result, the heart can pump more nutrients and oxygenated blood to the parts of the body where they are needed.
  • Increases Resistance to Illness-infrared sauna increases core body temperature, tricking the immune system that there is a low-grade fever — a condition called hyperthermia. As a result, your immune system triggers the release of white blood cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils and interferons – all part of the body’s immune system response.

Additionally, studies suggest that the increase in body temperature causes the release of heat shock proteins that deter viruses from reproducing and reduces the amount of inflammatory cytokines.

One study even suggested that using a sauna can reduce the chances of catching a common cold by 50%.

Massage Cupping

Massage Cupping, has grown in popularity in the last decade, but it is not a new technique. Its Eastern roots run deep for thousands of years and it is practiced with increasing regularity in many parts of the world.

There are several forms of cupping, but "massage cupping" in the west is mainly associated with myofascial decompression. I use a combination of silicone cups, as well as Chinese fire cups to create suction, allowing myofascial decompression as the skin and sub-dermal tissue layers are drawn up into the cups.

Most massage therapy techniques exert direct, positive, pressure to release tension, but instead cupping exerts a negative pressure to lift skin, muscles, and fascial fibers and draw blood into the area. This is most effective for use with scar tissue or when the skin and subdermal layers are so adherent that they are hard to separate.

Certain conditions contraindicate the use of massage cups; these include but are not limited to pregnancy; liver, kidney, or heart disease; blood disorders including hemophilia; the use of blood thinners, skin abrasions or eruptions.

Lemon/Castor Oil Foot Treatment

The Lemon/Castor oil Foot Treatment is a refreshing, cleansing, experience!

The combination of castor oil, salt, and lemon, is a powerful triple effect that opens the pores and the nerve endings in the feet, and the excretory channels of the kidneys and liver, drawing out impurities.

The salt has a gentle skin exfoliating effect as well as balancing tissues pH. The lemon is an excellent stimulant to the lymphatics moving stagnant lymphatic fluid in the feet back into venous circulation. The treatment also helps to cool the body and feels wonderful!

Moxibustion (Bamboo)

Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese or Japanese Medicine technique. Bamboo moxa is a Japanese technique in which a piece of bamboo is filled with burning mugwort wool which is then rolled, tapped, and pressed on the meridians. The rhythmic application of heat and pressure on acupoints triggers shifts in the body condition and mood.

Bamboo moxa has a dual effect of both gently cleansing and nourishing organs and tissues and is often used around the spleen to treat its deficiency. It is warming, nurturing to the blood, dispels cold from the body, reducing phlegm, and dispelling dampness. It promotes qi and relieves pain and depletion, and eliminates stagnation.

An excellent Add-on to many treatments.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy gives an instant “Ahh” as it calms the autonomic nervous system by engaging the vagus nerve. The various essential oils are healing balms for body, mind, and spirit ailments

Aromatherapy is an age-old therapy that uses essential oils as therapeutic agents to treat illness or imbalance. The essential or volatile oils are extracted from the flowers, barks, stem, leaves, roots, fruits and other parts of plants by various methods.

The skin permeability properties of essential oils are a major reason why they have been utilized for millennia. Inhalation, local application, and bath infusions are the major methods used in aromatherapy.

Inhaling essential oils is the fastest route into the body. When essential oil vapors and odors are breathed in, the molecules are absorbed by the hairs inside the nostrils that have receptors which then signal the olfactory bulb in your limbic system. These signals stimulate the brain to exert neurotransmitters (e.g. serotonin and dopamine) thereby regulating mood.

Once the oils are in the system, they remodulate themselves and work in a synergistic manner at the site of malfunction or at the affected area. Single oils or various combinations are applied to get relief from numerous ailments like depression, indigestion, headache, insomnia, muscular pain, respiratory problems, skin ailments, swollen joints, organ complications etc.

There are several essential oils from which to choose, selected by a review of symptoms and concerns as well as by which one(s) we resonate with.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is one of the most popular forms of massage therapy. This type of massage targets the superficial muscle layers, aims to relieve tension, is relaxing, energizing, and restorative.

Swedish massage uses light-to-firm, long, kneading strokes combined with rhythmic tapping strokes and movement of the joints most often involving the full-body. I love to integrate aromatherapy essential oils, moist hot packs, warm basalt stones, and other therapeutic aids to help melt away the stress and tension my clients come to me to alleviate.

See video here that shows me administering a Swedish Massage with the addition of Hot Stone Therapy.

The four most common strokes used in Swedish massage are:

  • Effleurage: smooth, gliding strokes to relax soft tissue
  • Petrissage: squeezing, rolling, or kneading
  • Friction: deep, circular movements to increase blood flow and break down scar tissue
  • Tapotement: tapping with cupped hands, fingers, or the edge of the hand
  • Vibration

The physical and mental health benefits of a Swedish massage make it a great option for those new to massage or someone looking to a complete massage experience.

Some of the benefits one may expect from receiving a Swedish massage include: pain reduction, increased blood circulation, rehabilitation for muscle injuries, increased flexibility, stress-reduction, better sleep, improved immune system.

The development of Swedish massage is credited to Dutch practitioner, Johan Georg Mezger, who adopted the French names to denote the basic strokes. But, a "Swedish" massage is not related to the country of Sweden, where massages are quite uncommon.
